Van Avakian
Van Avakian is a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and producer of Armenian descent, born in Montreal, Canada. Raised in a musically rich environment, Van picked up instruments at an early age, learning guitar, drums, bass, and piano by ear. His early influences ranged from classic rock and soul to jazz, funk, and indie, shaping a diverse and deeply personal sound.
Over the years, he developed a passion for live looping, using it as a platform to build entire songs in real time during his performances. Layering guitar riffs, bass grooves, rhythmic percussion, keyboard textures, and rich vocal harmonies, Van transforms each set into a spontaneous and fully arranged musical journey. His “one-man band” shows blur the line between live performance and studio precision.
Beyond the stage, Van is also an experienced recording and mixing engineer, bringing a polished, high-fidelity touch to both his live and studio work. Whether performing solo, producing for other artists, or writing original material, his music is marked by emotional depth, rhythmic sophistication, and a commitment to artistic integrity.
Now based in the beach town of Cabarete, on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, Van continues to evolve his sound and connect with audiences through intimate live shows, studio collaborations, and a growing online presence.
